What is a “Charlie” in blackjack?
If you have the term “Charlie Rule” or “Rule of Charlie” when blackjack have come to play and you’re not sure what that means, then do not panic! We can explain this relatively simple anomaly.
In some blackjack games, players will have an added incentive to play by the addition of “Charlie” rules, they can 5 cards (rare), 6-card or 7-Card Charlie rules and each rule be, reduces the house advantage to favor of the player.
In essence, a Charlie rule is that if a player has a certain number of cards dealt without busting 21 (5, 6 or 7 cards, as shown in the examples above) then holds regardless of the hand of the dealer, the player will that pot to win.
A 5-card Charlie happens on average every 50 hands and it is rare for casinos offer players such a big advantage, but many casinos offer 6 card and 7-Card Charlie Rules, players can add an additional way to win, even if the dealer holds a particularly strong hand against them.
How much is the benefit? Well, if you can find a 5-card Charlie game then that lowers the house edge by a very large 1.46%. 6 card Charlie reduces the house advantage of a much smaller 0.16%, while the 7-Card Charlie, it reduces only by 0.01%.
If you are a fan of online blackjack then each Charlie Rule is an advantage for a player as it is to lower the house advantage, even if it is only a tiny amount.
